Trail ride, Christmas, and misc.

Before Christmas began, I went on a trail ride with Jason, Jess, and four ladies who are part of a saddle club. We rode for about 3 hours along an old railroad path. The tracks have long since been dismantled, and the trail passes along some beautiful scenery. I rode Orion and he actually behaved. I am getting better as a rider too, knowing how to have a firm hand to prevent the horses from taking advantage of me. Lucy still has not had her baby...she is almost 45 days overdue, which I am told is not all that uncommon for large horses. I learned that the reason you have to watch a mare in captivity is because the birth sacks are often thicker than in the wild because of high-nutrition feed. This can lead to the sack not breaking on its own and the colt can suffocate.

Christmas was spent with Jess and her family...we ate a fantastic meal of lamb and a bunch of other stuff. I definitely miss my family during holidays, so it was very nice to be part of the festivities with my surrogate family.

Misc. Pics.

Drying racks. The cherries need to dry before being hulled, and then roasted.

Another view from the back porch...Summer is finally here!
