Playa Barqueta

It is hard to believe I have been here now for almost nine months and I have yet to visit the nearest beach, Playa Barqueta, just South of David. Yesterday, that is what I did. I was supposed to help guide a tour with Cesar, but it got canceled, so I went with Lyn and Ballardo to the beach. The drive was easy, maybe 1.5 hours to get there. The landscape reminded me partly of Northern Mexico because of the dunes and lack of jungle, and partly of Northern California. The sand is dark in color. The day was warm but not too hot, and overcast. We brought a cooler with beer and meet (the essentials), and Ballardo started a driftwood fire to cook the pork. Unlike California, no one cares if you have fires or consume adult beverages on the beach, a stolen freedom that I was shocked to learn about the hard way when I lived in CA. I wandered off and wondered if I would find a Hamburger Bean...a few minutes later, I did, and then several more. I'm not sure what this new obsession is all about, but I truly could not stop looking for them.

After a couple of hours, we ordered a fried "Jack" fish with platanos. The fish was huge and one plate was enough for all of us. It cost $10 total. We walked for awhile on the beach after that, and headed on back to Boquete. I will definitely be going there more often. It ended up being a very fun day.

"Ooooooo" the Jaguarman exclaims, happy to have a cold beer and fish on the way!
