Preparing for Panama Pt 2

March 26, 2010

I moved to Dad and Karen’s house, and went out with Hank for a great meal at The Polanaise, a Polish restaurant. I worked out at the climbing gym and the gym at their house. I started having a pain in my side which has been making it difficult to breathe. I went out that night for a couple hours to Burnheart’s and ran into a few friends. Joe’s girlfriend dropped me off at home.

Today, I went for a hike with Dad down the shoreline, and went to the gym. The pain in my side has increased to the point that I had to stop working out. We had a great dinner of chicken, veggies, and cabbage that they cooked up. Mike picked me up and we got Angie. Then we went to Bomb Shelter where they have 328 different beers. Then we met up with Jessie and Sara G at the Comedy Café which was OK. After that, we went to Comedy Sports to see Jodi and her friend Tim who was performing. That was pretty interesting, I’ve never seen Comedy Sports live. I got home at 3 and crashed. This was my last night out with friends.

Dad and I left for the Farm for my final consolidation of stuff I am bringing to Panama and to put my car in storage. The pain in my side has increased to a level of real concern. I feel like I’m being stabbed in the lungs with every breath and am really afraid that this will interfere with my travel plans. Andy in meeting me in Boquete on Wednesday and we have a few days planned out…It would really suck if I have to change plans and I don’t get to even see him. I’m also at a gap in insurance coverage, so I hope it’s not serious. I went to bed early

I woke up in extreme pain to the point of not being able to walk or sit normally. Dad and I talked about going to the ER. I’m supposed to fly out tomorrow so I am feeling really worried and hoping this isn’t serious. Just then, Dad and Karen’s friend Robert called. He is a chiropractor. I told him my symptoms and he says there is nothing wrong internally, I most likely have a muscle strain that is originating in my back and transferring pain to my side under my ribs. He also said the ER would do nothing for my but prescribe pain meds. Ibuprofen has been helping a little also. I opted to tough it out. Psychologically, just hearing that from Robert really helped put my mind at ease. I have been working out a ton, so I can see how it would be likely that I strained something. I finished consolidating everything and we headed home. Hank came over and we had an amazing dinner of beef tenderloin and veggies. I finished up last minute business and went to bed praying that the pain in my side would subside before tomorrow when I have to lug my bags. We heard from Andy via email and his trip seems to be going great so far.

I woke up with very little pain!!! We had blueberry buckwheat pancakes and fruit, and headed to the airport over 2 hours early. I made it to the gate in 10 minutes…It always seems when you are ahead of time, you make it through the check points super fast, and when you’re late there are always long lines. I made several phone calls from the airport in MKE to say bye to some people. My phone gets disconnected tomorrow. No more Verizon. I plan on getting a phone and internet once in Panama. I have a hotel lined up tonight in Panama City and then will take a bus to David in the morning. Then one more bus to meet Andy and Lyndsay in Boquete. Yay!!!
